Why would a skilled analyst want to cultivate own competitor?

Skilled systems analysts have sufficient competencies to handle the entire range of analysis work within their projects. Given their in-depth knowledge of the subject matter and experience, they are able to complete any task many times faster than a junior analyst or trainee. The latter is brought into the project by the Manager to reduce project risks and sometimes to reduce costs.

The talk is for experienced analysts (seniors, middles) on multi-year projects with and without the prospect of expansion, as well as on shorter, similar projects.
