Backward Compatibility Beyond the API

Companies often face the need to restructure their IT landscape. One key aspect of this process is replacing individual components or entire information systems that support certain business processes. During this replacement, the question of whether to “maintain backward compatibility of APIs or update dependent systems” inevitably arises. However, an equally important question is, “Does backward compatibility apply only to software interfaces?”

In this talk, I will present examples of backward compatibility in software development processes and showcase how to assess their impact.
