Throughout my career, I managed to change about 15 different products while being part of an outsourcing company. This isn't an enormous number, but it is enough to identify key practices of successful onboarding and avoid common mistakes.
In this talk, I will share my observations:
- How to deal with a lack of context at the start of a project, especially if you are a mid-level analyst.
- Why large projects often accumulate analytical technical debt and how this complicates onboarding.
- How to optimise the process of learning multiple knowledge areas and minimise the loss of unused information.
- Why well-established processes and ready-made artifact templates simplify work and speed up adaptation.
- Why it’s important to allow time for absorbing material, and how unnecessary daily meetings without real questions can hinder the progress.
- How sharing experiences with your team helps structure knowledge and find ready-made solutions.
