When Diagrams Come Alive: PlantUML with a Bit of Code

  • 40 min

It seems that UML has been around for so long, and interviewers have been asking for it for so long, that even junior analysts now know it inside and out. Just like they know one of the popular tools for creating UML diagrams — PlantUML.

But what if there's a need to go beyond the static images generated by PlantUML?

Using a sequence diagram as an example, I want to show how you can bring some life to static visuals with the help of PlantUML, JavaScript, and HTML. You will need some basic coding skills — but we’ll manage, even without our own backend service :)

P.S. I wish I could say ChatGPT wrote the code for us — but, spoiler: it didn’t work out.

P.P.S. The result can even be embedded into Confluence!
